Discount Anonymous is a fictional non-profit organisation founded on Black Friday. Each year during the sales season, it appears in busy shopping districts as pop-up shop windows and urban installations, offering a moment to pause at the height of promotional activity.
The project stems from observations of the discount season, where promotional periods have expanded from a few days to over a month, with prices shifting daily. Amid increasingly aggressive slogans such as ‘Last Night’, ‘Last Chance’, and ‘Miss It and You’ll Never Get It Again’, consumers spend weeks comparing prices, placing orders, and discussing discounts. Shopping begins to resemble a collective compulsion.
Design Language
The brand uses the Striated Spiderhunter as its core symbol. Despite its name, it does not hunt spiders. It feeds on nectar and disrupts spider webs, making it a subtle but pointed symbol.
The visual system draws on everyday materials from the discount season, including spider webs formed from price tags, promotional games printed on receipts, and parcel labels.
