Shape of Water
2024
Shape of Water is a flag constructed through biomaterials and sound interaction. It translates the fluidity of water into a responsive material system, using touch and sound to reveal the impact of human behaviour on transboundary water resources.
The fabric responds to touch. A light contact produces soft, flowing water sounds, while sustained or heavier pressure destabilises the sound into noise. Tactile input is directly translated into auditory output, where the intensity of interaction reflects the degree of human impact on water systems.
Touch it, hear it
The material’s natural properties, including shrinkage, humidity response and variability of form, are preserved as part of the system. It remains in a state between stability and fragility. This is not a flaw, but a reflection of the condition of water systems within resource distribution and environmental governance.
